Life

How Yinz Doin’.

How Yinz Doin’.

If you aren’t from Pittsburgh that means, “How are you?” Hello friends, both real and virtual! I wanted to take a few minutes to check back in and update you on how this crazy thing called life has been going and my plans for the future. 2020 was a dumpster fire, but one of the things it brought me was…

Updates!

Updates!

Hey friends! Has 2020 been a trainwreck or what? While I imagine everyone’s experience and what they’ve been doing to stay sane the last 3 months is quite varied, I thought I’d take a moment to clue you in on a little bit about what has been happening for me, and some exciting things in the pipeline. Personally, when the…

Quarantine and Quinoa

Hey folks.  There literally is no time like the present than to dust off my keyboard and chat with you for a minute, is there?  This isn’t an official recipe post, so don’t get too excited.  I figured a blog is also for talking and journaling and connecting.  And right now, life outside the nuclear family is taking place online.

We got the notification that our second grader’s school is officially closed until May 1st, but I’m convinced the rest of the school year will be done at home.  So, I’m making the most of it, as we all are.  To be honest,

National Gluten Free Day

Hi hi hi you guys!  So, I know it’s been a looooong time, but if you follow me on Instagram (caitlins_cupboard), you’ve at least seen a little bit about what I’ve been cooking, along with a promise to jump start this blog again. I decided today was the day, as it’s National Gluten Free Day.  And my friend Lauren, the…

Truffle Parsnip Fries

You guys.  These fries.  They are both candy and potato chip addiction level.  Maybe you’ve had parsnips before and you think, “nah, not my thing.” But then you have these parsnips, and you’re immediately, “these are crack, I need all the parsnips.” Because while a parsnip purée is lovely and all, this is hands down the best way to enjoy…

Thyme to Come Back

It has been one year folks.  One year since I took a break from this site to grow a baby, birth a baby, and get through the first couple months of said baby’s life.

But I miss you guys.  I miss writing about the food I’m making.  If you’ve been following me on Instagram (caitlins_cupboard), you know I’ve still been busy in the kitchen.  I have goals, and I need to organize, but I want to come back here with recipes for you all to enjoy!  So stay tuned.  In the meantime, I will leave you with a wonderful little tea/tonic recipe to get you through the upcoming sniffly months.

Pumpkin Pie Cake

We love to make fun of “Pumpkin Spice Season,” but in reality…we all secretly love it.  Right?  Right?! It is just a delicious flavor, and I’d be happy to eat it all year round, but the warming spices of cinnamon, ginger, cloves and allspice really do lend themselves to chilly weather quite well.  There IS a reason we are drawn to these things in the fall and winter; they are heat-inducing spices.  They actually make you feel warm and cozy!

I know, the name seems a little confusing.  But this dish sort of meets you halfway between pumpkin pie and a piece of cake.

Buckwheat Banana Date Cake

I have a confession: I suck at baking.

I don’t like to follow directions.  My ego wants me to put a bunch of ingredients in a bowl, wave a magic wand, and create something delicious.  It’s easier to do this with savory dinners in a pot on a stove than it is in baking.  Baking is actual science where the difference between one teaspoon and two makes or breaks the dish.

The Best Summer Salad is Peach Salad

August means stone fruits.  And stone fruits are delicious.  Peaches are probably my favorite of the bunch.  And sometimes summer is hot and you don’t want to cook anything.  Salads are a great way to not have to cook, but many people think salads are boring or gasp….gross.  I’m here with a recipe to change your mind.

Gluten Free Zucchini Fritters

I’m baaaaaa-aaaack!!  It has been way too long since I’ve shared a recipe with you.  And now that I have a beautiful working kitchen again, I’m getting back in the groove.

I spent the entire day today in the kitchen experimenting with a few things.  And I am pretty sure that this recipe is considered “shareable.”
